相信很多人正在使用 Windows 10 及 Windows 11，不過仍有一些人的電腦仍未升級，尚在使用 Windows 8.1。雖然 Windows 是不會「過期」，但微軟會在 Windows 推出一段日子後結束技術支援，那就是不再為該版本的 Windows 提供更新及修正，而 Windows 8.1 就是下一個微軟要終止支援的 Windows，日期將會是 2023 年 1 月 10 日。

As of January 10, 2023, Microsoft will no longer support Windows 8.1. This means PCs running Windows 8.1 will still function, but will no longer get software or security updates.

終止支援代表甚麼意思？那就是從 2023 年 1 月 10 日起，執行 Windows 8.1 的電腦仍可運作，但微軟將不再提供下列各項：

1. 任何問題的技術支援；

2. 軟體更新；

3. 安全性更新或修正。

微軟早在 2016 年就終止對 Windows 8 的支援，而其修訂版 8.1 則將在 2023 年 1 月才會失去支援。

雖然你可以繼續使用執行 Windows 8.1 的電腦，但今次微軟表示不會為 Windows 8.1 提供 Extended Security Update (ESU)，因此過了 2023 年 1 月 10 日， 企業仍使用 Windows 8.1 就要面對沒有技術支援、沒有安全更新、沒有修正，和將會面臨更大的病毒和惡意程式碼風險。

現時，微軟沒有為 Windows 8.1 用戶提出免費升級到 Windows 10 或 Windows 11 的選項。因此，用戶可自行購買 Windows 10 或 Windows 11 作升級，而 Windows 10 升級到 Windows 11 現時仍是免費。
